- The surfer with the most victories is Tiago Pires, with five wins (1997, 2005, 2010, 2015 and 2017), even taking into account that he did not compete for Portugal during his long stint on the world surfing circuit;

Several local surfers from Ribeira d’Ilhas will also be competing, such as the 2023 national champion Joaquim Chaves, Afonso Antunes, Henrique Pyrrait, Martim Fortes and Constância Simões. All of them are ready to take advantage of their local knowledge and achieve a good result at “home”.
Joaquim Chaves, 2023 national champion and current top 5 of the MEO Surf League
“Although I’m not from Ericeira, I’ve lived here for many years and spend a lot of time surfing the Ribeira d’Ilhas wave. It’s a wave that I had a lot of difficulty surfing at first, but nowadays I feel much more comfortable. I feel a bit of an advantage in competing in Ribeira d’Ilhas, because, whether due to lack of options or lack of motivation to train, I end up surfing the wave on days when almost no one feels like surfing. I end up having a few more hours of surfing in Ribeira d’Ilhas than the competition, and that can be a point in my favour. The year I was national champion, I won this stage, and I’ve also had good performances in the Challenger Series circuit stage in Ribeira d’Ilhas.”
Constância Simões, current top 8 of the MEO Surf League women’s ranking
“Since I was young, I’ve had a special relationship with the Ribeira d’Ilhas wave, the beach and the atmosphere of this stage. I have competed here many times since I was little, in the Ericeira Surf Club circuits, regional circuits, among others, and I have achieved some good results. I think the idea of doing it again, creating new bonds and achieving results on this same wave would fill my heart. It will certainly be a challenge because the level is very good. Let’s hope for classic conditions, as is typical of Ribeira d’Ilhas, and to put on a good surfing show for whoever comes to watch us compete.”
