After the release of the acclaimed Fado Camões and the most recent EP, O Fado – a collaboration with Spanish composer and pianist Marco Mezquida – the multi-award-winning LINA_ announces yet another partnership, this time with Jules Maxwell, composer and keyboardist for Dead Can Dance.
The duo’s musical genius celebrates the poetic connections between Portugal and Ireland on Terra Mãe, a 9-track album to be released this summer via Atlantic Curve | Schubert Music Europe. The creative proposal by LINA_ and the Irish composer aims to succeed Burn, an album by Lisa Gerrard and Jules Maxwell, released in 2021.
This work features original songs by Jules Maxwell, LINA_ and Portuguese writer Amélia Muge. Like the album Burn, it is produced by renowned English composer James Chapman (aka Maps).
2024 was a successful year for LINA_. The release of the remarkable Fado Camões won numerous awards from national and international critics, including #1 in the prestigious European World Music Charts, “Top of the World Tracks” from the British magazine Songlines Magazine and Best Album in the World Music category from the German Association of Music Critics. Furthermore, this work has the Seal of Manifest Cultural Interest, granted by the Ministry of Culture, and, more recently, was nominated for PLAY (Portuguese Music Awards).
Between concerts on an extensive European tour with more than 50 dates, the artist released, in March of this year, the EP O Fado, in partnership with the Spanish pianist and composer Marco Mezquida.
Jules Maxwell, from Belfast, Ireland, is a composer and songwriter, best known for his work with Dead Can Dance, Foy Vance, Lisa Gerrard and as a composer for many London theatre and dance productions, particularly at Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre.
She has also released six solo albums and wrote the opera “The Lost Thing”, which premiered at the Royal Opera House in London in 2019.
She composed the soundtrack for the short film “Dance Lexie Dance”, which was nominated for an Oscar in 1998.
“Não Deixei de Ser Quem Sou” is the first step forward in this magnificent collaboration between LINA_ and Jules Maxwell. Internationally edited by Atlantic Curve | Schubert Music Europe, this track is scheduled for release on May 2nd.
“There is a glorious melancholy in much of the balladry written in Ireland and Portugal. This song explores that same sense of melancholy,” says Jules Maxwell on the subject.
