New Yorker Azealia Banks, author of “212”, in a lukewarm concert on the MEO Kalorama stage, after Cíntia and Best Youth took the stage.
Azealia Banks brought a bit of Harlem, the neighbourhood where the American rapper, singer, songwriter and music producer was born, to Parque da Bela Vista. She emerged on the music scene in the early 2010s and is known for her striking mix of hip-hop, house, pop and dance music, often incorporating experimental and genre-defying sounds.
Azealia Banks is known for her sharp and intricate rap verses combined with soulful singing, which demonstrate her versatility as a vocalist. However, yesterday, she passed by the festival in a lukewarm manner. Her solid foundation, danceable beats, and catchy melodies with a hip-hop twist did not make it to the stage yesterday. Perhaps the small audience did not help.
Her hit “212” (featuring Lazy Jay), from the 2011 EP 1991, catapulted her to global recognition. Her debut album, Broke with Expensive Taste (2014), further solidified her unique artistic vision.
