The Lisbon venue hosted yesterday and repeats today and tomorrow the beautiful show Eternal Ballet Flamenco, a tribute to Pablo Picasso, a show full of passion and colour by the talented dancers of the Carlos Rodriguez Ballet Flamenco Company.
Spreading Flamenco inside and outside of Spain, for three decades, Carlos Rodríguez enters the pictorial world of Pablo Picasso in Eternal, in a show of dance and original live music of immense beauty.
In the author’s words, “ETERNO is created and told with the stylised language of Spanish dance and flamenco. From the roots of the creative Picasso to the avant-garde. From the scent of silence to the eye of the dying bull, the flower trapped in the heart, the melody hidden in the guitar, the fire of throats, the song of colour, the mirrors of water, the liquid arms.
Picasso’s words, his colours and his light ignite my imagination, making it fly from my heart into the air, shaping it with my hands, my feet and my body. Painting becomes dance.
In ETERNO I delved into the ugliness that hides beauty. For this, I count on very special artists, performers of different ages. The dancers with their masks reflect what Picasso projected in his works. For the painter, the brush was his weapon and his shield. The feet and hands are ours, for we give life and form to this choreography, transforming it into actions that provoke emotion: dancing, feeling, creating. Forgetting banal appearances, immersing ourselves in the truth that makes us feel.” Dreams come true. I broke the rules of typical dance shows. Like Picasso, I believe that to create, you have to destroy.”
