Lisboa hosts Chinese Film Week

Six recent films from China’s film production will be shown from Sunday in Lisbon, a cycle integrated in the official program of the visit of the President of China, Xi Jinping, to Portugal, was announced today.

Organized by the China Film Administration, the series will run from Nov. 25 to Dec. 4 at the Corte Inglés in Lisbon, and the opening ceremony will include actors Huang Xiaoming and Wang Xiaohui, director of the government’s film support department Chinese.

According to a press release, Wang Xiaohui wants to “strengthen the cultural ties between the two nations and introduce Portugal to the panorama of Chinese film production today.”

The President of the People’s Republic of China will be in Portugal on 4 and 5 December.

Chinese Film Week will feature, for example, Peter Chan’s “American Dreams in China” (2013), Dante Lam’s action film “Operation Mekong” (2016) and the animated film “The Monkey King” (2015) by Tain Xiao Peng.

In 2019, Portugal and China celebrate 40 years of diplomatic relations.

In the State Budget for 2019, the Government included in the Foreign Cultural Action various initiatives to celebrate diplomatic relations with China, namely the Festival of Portuguese Culture in China and the Festival of Chinese Culture in Portugal that “will contribute, in cross-cutting, for the international affirmation of Portuguese Culture “.

Next year also marks the 20th anniversary of Macao’s return to the Chinese administration.
