Lisbon Lights Up with Sara Correia, Ângelo Freire, and the Tejo Orchestra

Lisbon is ready to celebrate Christmas; all that’s missing is pressing the ‘magic button’ that will illuminate the city, giving new colours to its streets, avenues, and squares.

The inauguration of the Christmas lights, an initiative of the Lisbon City Council and the Union of Trade and Services Associations (UACS), will take place on the 22nd (Saturday) at 6:30 PM in Terreiro do Paço, with the lighting of the 30-meter Christmas tree. A symbolic and always exciting moment that officially opens the festive season.

Under the Christmas glow, we bring together on the same stage the Tejo Orchestra (composed of 10 musicians), the voice of fado singer Sara Correia, and the Portuguese guitar of Ângelo Freire in a show built from scratch, conceived by musician, composer, singer-songwriter, and producer Diogo Clemente.

This musical moment begins with a new instrumental piece in homage to Carlos Paredes (a perfect epilogue to the centenary year of his birth), serving as a soundtrack for an aerial light show that intertwines with fireworks and lasers emanating from the Tagus River.

Sara Correia lends her unique voice to “Fado Português” (by José Régio), “Que o Amor Te Salve Nesta Noite Escura” (by Pedro Abrunhosa), and “Quero é viver” (by António Variações), accompanied by the orchestra and guitarist, joined by Frederico Gato (on bass) and Joel Silva (on percussion). A performance that also holds a surprise at the end.
