Lisboa na Rua returns to 21 August

Occupying new spaces, safe and with access control, Lisboa na Rua paints the city of music, theatre, dance, cinema, visual arts, a new circus and lots of magic. And because art is also reflection, topics as current as the environment, feminism or sport are present in the 2021 edition of Lisboa na Rua.

The program starts with a percussion and voice concert that looks out over the Atlantic from a unique point of view: the Castelo de São Jorge. Traditions are resumed, adapting to the current context: the Iberian Mask Festival returns this year in a new format, with group presentations in museums and monuments in the city.

It returns to Dancing the City where, if we leave aside the inhibitions, all places are good for dancing: a library, museums. With all the care, magic also surprises us again in the streets and gardens.

The open-air cinema returns to the garden of the Lisbon Museum – Palácio Pimenta with a very current theme: human rights in the world of sport. And it is also in the garden of Palácio Pimenta that the first show written and staged by the rapper Capicua will take place, reminding us that environmental concerns continue to be urgent. With films from Iran, Ethiopia, the United States of America and also Portugal: “Offside: Out-of-Joke”, by Janar Panahi, “The Athlete”, by Rasselas Lakew, “Back on Board: Greg Louganis”, by Cheryl Furjanic, and “Documento Boxe”, by Miguel Clara Vasconcelos.

Artist Grada Kilomba debuts an installation that confronts us with our historical past and recalls stories and identities forgotten over time. We also rescue the feats of Portuguese women who made a difference in their times in the return of the Antiprincesses to the company of their youngest.

There’s a lot more to discover, from photography exhibitions, video art, new circus and, of course, lots of music, throughout a month when culture doesn’t take a vacation. All programming has free entry, but with reduced capacity in accordance with current safety regulations.
