Jet took the stage next. The Australian rock band, formed in Melbourne, kicked off the rockiest day of NOS Alive, with a nearly sold-out crowd and Jet shining on stage with Nic Cester.
The band gained international fame in the early 2000s with their garage rock sound reminiscent of the classics of the 60s and 70s, with influences from bands like The Kinks, The Beatles, AC/DC, and The Rolling Stones.
As we journey through their albums Get Born, Shine On, and Shaka Rock, we hear “Last Chance,” “She’s a Genius,” “Put Your Money Where Your Mouth Is,” “Get What You Need,” “Hurry Hurry,” “Move On,” “Look What You’ve Done,” “Bring It On Back,” “Are You Gonna Be My Girl,” “Rollover D.J.”, “Get Me Outta Here,” “Cold Hard Bitch,” and finish with “Rip It Up.” They also include a classic, “It’s a Long Way to the Top” (“If You Wanna Rock ‘n’ Roll”) by AC/DC.
Jet’s style is defined by Garage Rock, Classic Rock, Pop Rock, and Arena Rock, with infectious rhythms, striking guitar riffs, and a brash, energetic style that associated them with bands like The White Stripes and The Strokes in the rock revival movement. Their songs are very accessible and have anthemic potential, perfect for big shows.
Joining all this is Nic Cester, the lead singer and guitarist, with his powerful and charismatic voice. Songs like “Are You Gonna Be My Girl?” became global hits.
