On May 21, Lisbon will host the Mixed Relay event, a World Olympic Qualification event direct to Tokyo.
World Triathlon recently announced that the direct qualifying event for Mixed Relay takes place in Lisbon on May 21st. In this competition, the last three teams that qualify for Tokyo will be known, thus joining the first seven nations already qualified through ranking.
This competition precedes the Triathlon World Cup, which will also take place in Lisbon on the same weekend of May 22 and 23, one of five to collect points for the world and Olympic ranking, qualification that resumes on May 1 and ends June 14th.
In the mixed relay competition, which will debut at the Olympic Games on July 31, each team is composed of four triathletes (two female and two male), with each element having to complete a sprint triathlon with 300 meters of swimming. , 8 kilometers of cycling and 2 kilometers of running.
In addition to being the only world event that directly qualifies teams for mixed relay, it will also allow the qualification of athletes for the individual event.
