After a hiatus in 2024, Lisboa Soa returns for its 9th edition, taking place from October 11th to 19th, 2025, in Lisbon.
The international festival of sound art, ecology, and auditory culture, conceived and directed by Associação Sonora and curated by Raquel Castro, once again invites the public to rediscover the city through listening.
This year, the festival presents a different format, with the program spread over 8 days in two different spaces: the Panopticon of Miguel Bombarda Hospital/Jardins do Bombarda and the Mitra de Lisboa. Both locations hold a past steeped in history and silence, which will serve as the backdrop for new artistic and sonic experiences.
Under the theme “Energy in Flow,” Lisboa Soa 2025 proposes a reflection on how energy permeates and connects the elements of the city, nature, and people. The concept is not limited to its physical meaning – wind, water, or sound – but expands to its symbolic and social dimensions, exploring energy as the vital force of human interactions and connecting them to the urban landscape, creating an environment for reflection, dialogue, and listening.
An international and multifaceted program
Lisboa Soa 2025’s activities encompass multiple dimensions of sound art and include:
- Sound installations and sculptures that engage with the festival’s space and theme
- Live performances and concerts that encourage deeper listening
- An educational program with soundwalks, workshops, and lectures that encourage environmental awareness and listening as a daily practice.
- All Lisboa Soa activities remain free of charge, reinforcing the festival’s commitment to accessibility and cultural inclusion.

About Lisboa Soa
Lisboa Soa is an annual festival of sound art, ecology, and auditory culture that explores the intersection of sound and environment. Over eight editions (2016–2023), the festival has toured several iconic locations in Lisbon – from Tapada das Necessidades and Estufa Fria, to the EPAL Reservoirs, Santa Clara Market, National Pantheon, Roman Theater, Carpintarias de São Lázaro, and the Largo Residências Barracks, among others.
With each edition, Lisboa Soa seeks to transform public spaces through sound installations and listening sessions, inviting the community to rediscover the city through their ears.
The festival’s mission is to encourage conscious listening as a tool for understanding the environment—both natural and social—by fostering ecological sensitivity through sound art.
Organised by the cultural association SONORA and with artistic direction by Raquel Castro, Lisboa Soa 2025 boasts a strategic partnership with Largo Residências and the Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Lisboa, which enables the Panóptico do Bombarda and the Mitra de Lisboa to be activated as temporary cultural spaces.
The festival is funded by DGARTES and supported by several organisations, including the Spanish Embassy and FLAD, as well as a co-production with TBA, among other organisations that make this ninth edition possible. All Lisboa Soa activities are free of charge, reaffirming the festival’s commitment to accessibility and cultural inclusion.
