Lisbon is the sixth most requested for international congresses
The city of Lisbon is the sixth most requested for international congresses, according to the ranking of the International Congress & Convention Association (ICCA), which classifies cities as an attractive destination to host large events in that sector.
In a statement, ICCA said that the Portuguese capital was ahead of cities like London and Singapore, having climbed three places in the classification, in a table led by Paris.
The director general of the Tourism Association of Lisbon, Vítor Costa, explained that “the city of Lisbon hosted 50% of the events that took place in Portugal”, and that the region received 55%, stressing that these results can stimulate “convergence between the Lisbon Convention Bureau, the department of the Tourism Association of Lisbon specialized in this segment and Turismo de Portugal “.
For Vítor Costa, the sixth position of Lisbon among ten cities should give rise to the creation of a large congress center, to fill the lack of equipment.
“These results make more present the proposal that has been made in the successive Strategic Tourism Plans of creating a large Congress Center of institutional nature, able to accommodate the large congresses that today are difficult to realize in Lisbon due to insufficiency of the existing equipment, “he said.
According to the note of the International Congress & Convention Association, Lisbon is one of the main destinations in the Business Tourism segment, because it possesses “particularly advantageous conditions” such as international prestige, excellence, quality and price of tourist services and the experience in hosting events of the most diverse nature.
