Lisbon < Lionel Richie brought timeless classics to the Meo Arena
The American artist came to Lisbon with his “Say Hello To The Hits” Tour, with a grand concert of light, colour, and joy in which he sang all his best songs.
Known for his smooth voice, timeless classics, and dynamic stage presence, the multi-award-winning artist took fans on a journey through time, accompanied by fabulous musicians who added even more sparkle to a concert signed by Ritmos e Blues / Live Nation.
Beginning in Belfast, he toured 16 countries for a total of 27 shows and ends on August 2nd in Madrid, at the Wizink Centre. One of his highlights in Lisbon was Lionel thanking the Portuguese audience for their affection and participation in the concert, even jokingly saying that the Portuguese fans wanted to dominate the show.
The “Say Hello To The Hits” tour features a spectacular production, from the video wall to every lighting and stage effect, in a show meticulously crafted down to the last detail.
With a long list of hits under his belt, the Grammy Award®, Oscar®, and Golden Globe® winner, who has sold over 125 million records worldwide, wasted no time opening the concert with “Hello,” “Running With the Night,” and “Easy,” one of several Commodores songs he performed for the MEO Arena audience.
Always unstoppable, he roamed the stage, singing and dancing, always with the support of his fans, and continued to reel off the hit list we all know: “Penny Lover,” “Se La,” “Stuck on You,” “Sail On” (by the Commodores), “You Are,” “Brick House / Fire” (by the Commodores), “Three Times a Lady” (by the Commodores), “Fancy Dancer / Sweet Love / Lady” (You Bring Me Up) (by the Commodores), and “Truly.”
Lionel Richie, who turned 76 last June, continues to display fantastic energy on stage, while joking with the audience, many of whom are his age, that knee pain is inevitable.
One of his most famous songs followed, “Endless Love,” a song he sang with Diana Ross. He then mentioned that he’d been trying to get the American diva to sing this song with him on stage for 42 years, but unfortunately, she hadn’t agreed this time. He continued with “My Destiny” and the fantastic “Dancing on the Ceiling / Jump.”
Songs like “Say You Say Me,” “We Are The World,” and “All Night Long” were essential and were the highlight of the show. The audience, seated, couldn’t resist any longer, jumping out of their seats to dance with Lionel Richie. Before closing the show, he sang “We Are The World,” a song he wrote with Michael Jackson. He said that in a room full of love and affection, the state of the world outside was incomprehensible, with so many cases of racism and wars raging across the globe.
After several minutes, with the audience calling him back to the stage, it was with “All Night Long”, in an epic finale, that he ended his time in Lisbon.
