Sporting CP lived up to expectations and beat Estrela da Amadora 4-0 at Alvalade this Sunday.
The green and white team started the match at full throttle and opened the scoring after just 7 minutes, when, from a free-kick taken by Trincão – who crossed the ball into the penalty area – Eduardo Quaresma headed the ball into the net. The 23-year-old defender, who had only started this season against Famalicão, justified Rui Borges’s bet in the best way.
The Lions’ offensive rhythm did not diminish, and Estrela da Amadora, who barely had time to react to the first goal, ended up conceding a second within four minutes. In a play of pure connection from the Alvalade team, Trincão provided another assist, this time for Luis Suárez, who, without much difficulty, made it 2-0 before the first quarter of an hour.
The night was going perfectly for the home team and, before the first half-hour, the unlikely Ivan Fresneda rose high, responding to a cross from Geny Catamo, and extended the score to 3-0. The goal was celebrated wildly by the defender, his first of the season for the Lions.
In the second half, the team coached by João Nuno came out more fearless, but again struggled to build play, never creating any real danger for Rui Silva’s goal.
Luis Suárez sealed the result in the 60th minute, when he received an assist from Morita and, with only Renan Ribeiro to beat, finished without giving the Tricolour goalkeeper a chance. The striker dedicated the goal to Morita, much loved by the fans and his teammates.
With this result, Sporting reinforces its good form and maintains a three-point lead over Benfica before the classic match next Friday.
