Lloyd Cole took us on a fantastic journey through his music
Centro Cultural de Belém
Lloyd Cole returned to Portugal and the CCB was the first stage to welcome him, on a musical journey that took him from north to south.
Lloyd Cole has sixty-two springs, forty of which are dedicated to music, enchanting anyone who has heard him since Lloyd Cole and the Commotions, his intelligent and witty lyrics, as well as his distinct voice and refined humour, which he maintained, and music a mix of pop, rock and folk, they once again received much applause from the Portuguese public.
After having passed through Portugal several times, and even having learned some words in Portuguese, he apologizes for not yet knowing how to speak Portuguese, he even says that he has been in Cascais for a week, but they only speak English there, and it is not a good place to learn.
Lloyd Cole is an English singer, songwriter and musician, from 1984 to 1989 he achieved stardom with Lloyd Cole and the Commotions, critically and publicly acclaimed, released Rattlesnakes in 1984, Easy Pieces in 1985 and Mainstream in 1987, which included songs such as “ Rattlesnakes”, “Perfect Skin” and “Are You Ready to Be Heartbroken?”.
His first solo album, Lloyd Cole in 1990, was a commercial success, followed by Don’t Get Weird on Me Babe in 1991, which did not achieve the success of the previous album but was very well received by critics.
Lloyd Cole continued to release critically acclaimed albums throughout the 1990s, such as 1993’s Bad Vibes, 1995’s Love Story, and 1996’s The Collection. Cole then formed a new band, The Negatives, in 2000, and released two albums, Music in a Foreign Language in 2003 and Antidepressant in 2006.
He also released Broken Record in 2010, with covers of Elvis Costello songs, and Standards in 2012, with covers of jazz standards in homage to his musical influences.
Cole returned, after a break, to release two albums of originals, in 2019, Guesswork and On Pain in 2023, and it was these songs that are part of his fantastic career, which he took to CCB in a two-part concert, much loved by the public who applauded him from start to finish, a concert that you can see today, in Palmela, and later in Porto, Braga, Coimbra, Caldas da Rainha and Loulé, with the signature of UGURU.
