Lola Young presents “One Thing”, with music video directed by Dave Meyers

British artist to perform at Vodafone Paredes de Coura festival on August 14

South London artist Lola Young, known for her unique and critically acclaimed talent, presents her new single “One Thing”.

The release comes with an official video that reflects the artist’s irreverent and provocative style, and marks a new phase in her international career, which includes a stop in Portugal for a concert at the Vodafone Paredes de Coura festival on August 14.

With soft guitar melodies and an engaging R&B beat, “One Thing” highlights Lola’s talent for spoken word and her impressive vocal ability. About her new song, Lola says: “It’s a song where, at first listen, it feels like I’m talking about just one thing. Sex. And, of course, I am. But sex itself is never about just one thing.”

The official video, directed by acclaimed Dave Meyers (Little Simz, SZA, Sabrina Carpenter), features creative editing that brings Lola’s irreverent humour to life. “I wanted to make a song and video that was provocative and showed sex as something fun and light, not always meaningful, and at the same time revealed how gender roles can be reversed,” says Lola. Through different scenarios: a first date, an all-girls classroom, a fight with ex-lovers in a boxing ring where she remains unbeaten, and Lola kissing, “One Thing” marks the beginning of a new era for the artist.

With over a billion total streams globally, Lola Young continues to enjoy immense success. Her platinum-selling single “Messy” was number one in the UK for four consecutive weeks, making her one of only two British artists to reach the top of the charts last year. At 24, Lola is also the youngest British artist to have a #1 single in the country since Dave with “Starlight” in 2022.

Additionally, “Messy” recently debuted at #1 on Billboard’s Pop Airplay chart, #1 on the Hot Adult Contemporary chart, #1 on Billboard’s Alternative Rock chart and climbed to the top of the Billboard Hot 100. Lola is the first female artist to have a debut single reach #1 on both the Pop and Alternative charts since Lorde’sRoyals.” Lola was also nominated for three Ivor Novello Awards (Best Album: “This Wasn’t Meant For You Anyway”; Best Song: “Messy”; and Best New Artist) following her nomination for Best Pop Artist at this year’s BRIT Awards.

The artist has since collaborated with Tyler, The Creator (“Like Him”) and Lil Yachty (“Charlie”) and continues to expand her global presence with her captivating music and personality. She recently made her Coachella debut and will be the opening act for Billie Eilish in Paris as part of her “Hit Me Hard and Soft” tour. She will then head to a series of summer festivals in the UK and Europe, including Glastonbury and Little Simz’ Meltdown Festival, as well as Vodafone Paredes de Coura, which marks the artist’s first time in Portugal.

As one of the UK’s most iconic voices making waves around the world, “One Thing” shows that Lola Young is poised to become one of the biggest voices of her generation.
