Luanda hosts in 2019 first biennial of culture and peace
Luanda will host for the first time in September 2019 a Pan-African forum for culture and peace, with the aim of “promoting violence prevention and conflict resolution,” UNESCO announced.
In a statement, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) explains that the Luanda Biennial aims to be “a space for reflection, dissemination of artistic works, ideas and knowledge “in defence of peace.
This forum will bring together representatives from government, civil society, the arts and scientific community and international organizations, and will focus on a number of axes: an intellectual forum, a festival of African and diaspora countries, and “international level” cultural and sporting events.
The Luanda Biennale was held this week, at the signing of an agreement between Angola’s Minister of Culture, Carolina Cerqueira, and UNESCO’s External Relations Officer, Firmin Edouard Matoko.
This international forum for culture and peace will be organized by the Government of Angola, UNESCO and the African Union, and will be part of UNESCO’s operational strategy for Africa (2014-2021).
