Rider Luciana Diniz was fighting for the medals in the individual obstacle jumping competition but ended up in 10th place with the horse Vertigo du Desert.
When she entered the circuit, she needed a perfect race to be able to go to a tiebreaker, in a contest dominated until then by Swedish riders. She did an almost perfect race, but a drop from a bar on the penultimate jump knocked out her chances of winning a medal, automatically getting a 4 point penalty.
Luciana was doing an impeccable route and finished within the 88 second time limit, with 84.69. The rider was ranked ninth in Rio-2016.
It was necessary to resort to a final tie-breaker between the six riders who finished without mistakes and there they won the British Ben Maher, ahead of the Swede Peder Fredricson and the Dutch Maikel van der Vleuten.
