The Mozambican Football Federation (FMF) announced today the dismissal of the coach, the Portuguese Luís Gonçalves, due to the non-fulfillment of some stated goals, after having failed to qualify for the African Cup of Nations (CAN).
The end of the link covers the entire technical team led by Luís Gonçalves, namely Tiago Capaz, João Pereira, Nasser Carimo, Florêncio Tembe and Manuel Valoi.
Luís Gonçalves took charge of the ‘mambas’ in August 2017, replacing former Portuguese international Abel Xavier.
Gonçalves had been an assistant coach to Abel Xavier when he coached the Mozambican national team, and then went on to guide the under-17 team in China.
Mozambique was eliminated from qualifying for CAN, losing at home by one to zero against Cape Verde, finishing in last place in Group F, with four points.
The 2021 edition of CAN was postponed until next year in Cameroon, running from 15 January to 28 February 2022.
