[dropcap type=”background”]A[/dropcap]fter a successful tour of venues and national and international festivals – Spain, Italy, Poland, Uruguay and with premieres still scheduled for Australia, France, Germany and Japan – Luísa Sobral is preparing to close this chapter of her career, with a special concert in a place that is both intimate and iconic: the Teatro da Trindade INATEL, in Lisbon. It will be on May 12th at 9 pm.
Edited in late 2018, ‘Rosa’, was warmly received by audiences and critics. Produced by the prestigious Catalan musician and producer Raul Refree (who signed works by Sílvia Pèrez Cruz, Rosalía and Rócio Márquez, among others) Rosa is a special and delicate record, based on an intimate record where Luísa risks new territories in composition and arrangements.
As a proof, a new and original formation that has enchanted audiences: at the voice of Luísa, the stage of the Teatro da Trindade, Manuel Rocha’s guitar and a trio of woodwinds composed by Gil Gonçalves on the tuba, Angelo Caleira on the horn and Sérgio Charquinho in the flugelhorn.
Until May, Luísa Sobral’s agenda will be well filled. On the 15th of February, Luísa will perform in Porto for an exclusive concert integrated into the Montepio À Vezes o Amor festival. It will be before a limited audience in a historic space of the city: the Palacete Silva Monteiro – Casa do Vinho Verde. International concerts resume in March with their debut in Australia, Japan, France and returns to Germany, Spain and Italy, ending the tour in May in Portugal. Complete schedule to be announced soon.
In March, ‘Desconcerto’ also returns, a show in which Luísa Sobral shares the stage with António Zambujo, César Mourão and Miguel Araújo. There will be 8 dates, most of which are already sold out, at the Coliseu do Porto (2 and 3 March and 26 and 27 May) and at the Coliseu de Lisboa (3 to 6 April).
Luísa Sobral is one of the most important composers and singers of the new generation of Portuguese musicians. It debuted in 2011 with ‘The Cherry on My Cake’, followed by ‘There’s A Flower in My Bedroom’ (2013) – with guests like Jamie Cullum, António Zambujo and Mário Laginha – the children’s album ‘Lu-Pu-I -Pi-Sa-Pa ‘(2014) and’ Luísa ‘(2016) that was recorded in Los Angeles, by the prestigious American producer Joe Henry.
She performed in important events such as the Barcelona Jazz Festival, La Mar de Música in Cartagena, the London Jazz Festival, Cully Jazz and SXSW in Texas and in countries like Spain, France, Italy, Turkey, Israel, Germany, Switzerland, Luxembourg, USA, Morocco, South Africa, Namibia, Zimbabwe, Botswana, Uruguay, Brazil, among others. Over the past few years, Luísa has seen her side as a composer highlighted: in addition to composing the winning song of the Eurovision Song Contest in 2017, with the theme ‘Amar pelos Dois’ performed by her brother Salvador Sobral, she has written regularly for artists such as Ana Moura, António Zambujo, Carolina Deslandes, Marco Rodrigues, Mayra Andrade, among others.
