Maçã d’Adão, a fantastic journey through the sounds of fado

presentation of Jonas's new album at the Capitólio

The composer, author, choreographer, and fado singer presented Maçã d’Adão, a project that celebrates all the cultural richness present in the sounds of Fado, but also the richness of the multiculturality that these sounds and experiences bring to the culture and life of Lisbon and Portugal.

Maçã d’Adão is Jonas’s second album, which follows São Jorge, the album that introduced him as a singer-songwriter. Jonas was early on surrounded by sacred music, attended church and gospel choirs, and had a strongly Catholic paternal side and a strongly Protestant maternal side.

In his professional journey, he develops projects as a choreographer, dancer, performer, singer-songwriter, and fado musician. In 2002, he joined the Chapitô arts school, and before finishing the course, he was already part of the cast of “A Canção de Lisboa” by Filipe La Féria. In 2006, he attended Circus Space University in London, where he began his path in Fado at O Fado Restaurant.

Back in Portugal, he represented his country at the Eurovision in Belgrade as a chorus singer in 2008, with the song “Senhora do Mar” performed by Vânia Fernandes. In 2010, he entered the School of Dance and released his first album Fado Mutante, with the Rosa Negra group signature, a project that won the Carlos Paredes award in 2012. In 2015, he founded Sinistra, a fado house in the centre of Sintra.

On stage, he was joined by Bernardo Romão, Hélder Machado, Jonas, Lander Patrick, Lewis Seivwright, Tiago Valentim, and Yami Aloelela, who along with Jonas, turned the concert into a sonic journey with Gypsy, Iberian, Moorish, and Afro-Brazilian influences, a fado filled with emotion, dance, rhythm that took us around the world without leaving the Capitólio and revives Fado Batido.

Jonas captivated a room that unfortunately wasn’t full, as the concert deserved; talent always deserves to be seen, but those who were present applauded as if it were a full house, show that only sinned by being too dark.
