Macao Chinese Orchestra pays tribute to Teresa Teng

The Macao Chinese Orchestra, guided by the baton of conductor Liu Sha, will revive the memory of one of the greatest figures of Chinese popular music, Teresa Teng, with a concert that celebrates the 25th anniversary of the death of the diva who gave voice to classics such as “The Moon Represents My Heart”, “The Other Side of the Water” and “I only care about you”.

Entitled “The Story of My Little Town With You”, the night dedicated to Teresa Teng will feature the performance of the famous singer Wang Zifei who will interpret several original songs from what is known as ‘the queen of songs in the Chinese language’.

Despite being the face of a romantic and nostalgic past, Teng had a career with some political setbacks, even going so far as to be banned. For example, the song “When Will You Return?”, Which gained greater popularity in Teresa Teng’s version, was banned by the Chinese Communist Party due to its alleged bourgeois and decadent content.

Teresa Teng would die in somewhat sinister circumstances in 1995, aged just 42, following an amphetamine overdose.
