When he came out in 1999 with the much-lauded ‘On How Life Is’, Macy Gray made an immediate impact. Thanks to the tremendous success of ‘I Try’, which broke the North American Top 5.

The Ohio-born singer’s debut album sold around 7 million copies worldwide, turning her almost instantly into a global star. Over the next decade, the albums followed at a good pace and Macy built a solid discography with 10 original works, becoming a regular presence on stages and festivals around the world.
At the same time, her strong image earned her an equally applauded career in cinema, starting in 2001 with ‘Training Day‘, a film with Denzel Washington. She then made her iconic presence felt in other blockbusters like ‘Spider Man‘, ‘For Colored Girls‘, or ‘The Paperboy‘. Recognition of her wide-ranging talents also came via the Grammys: she was nominated a dozen times and won a statuette for best vocal performance with the extraordinary ‘I Try‘.
Now, Macy Gray is in a new phase of her career. Along with keyboardist Billy Wes, drummer Tamir Barzilay and bassist Alex Kyhn, a trio of prodigious musicians and all multi-instrumentalists with careers that spanned pop and country to jazz and punk, Macy formed California Jet Club, a group that launched last year the fantastic ‘The Reset‘.
The group has already performed on popular shows such as Jimmy Kimmel Live and has made it clear that it is ready for the world: music with a solid soul-R&B foundation, open to many other sounds (the group even made a version of the Body Count classic by Ice-T, ‘Cop Killer‘) with lyrics that reflect on modern America.
Accustomed to the stages and always distinguishing herself as a solid live performer, Macy Gray now lands her California Jet Club in Portugal for a dazzling and unmissable debut in which the new sound of her presence will be joined by her greatest classics.
