The Incorpora Program of the ”la Caixa” Foundation, in collaboration with BPI and the Institute of Employment and Professional Training (IEFP), brokered the hiring of 1,746 people in vulnerable situations in Portugal throughout 2024.
This impact was achieved thanks to the participation of 906 companies committed to social responsibility and labour inclusion.
Even in a context of economic recovery, with record employment levels, access to the labour market remains unequal. Many groups face significant barriers, whether socioeconomic, cultural, health, age, disability or lack of training.
To break down these visible and invisible barriers that hinder access to employment for these people in a situation or at risk of social exclusion, the ”la Caixa” Foundation has been promoting the Incorpora Program in Portugal since 2018, which works to overcome these difficulties, promoting social integration. and labour of these people.
A personalized approach to transforming lives
Incorpora is based on the collaboration of 52 social entities in Portugal, which work in a network with 107 technicians specialized in guidance and job prospecting. These professionals develop personalized itineraries that recognize the potential of each individual, encouraging their autonomy and active participation in the job market.
Participating companies not only create employment opportunities for people in vulnerable situations but also promote more diverse and inclusive environments. In this way, they reinforce their role as agents of social transformation, contributing to Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 8 and 10, related to decent work, economic growth and reduction of inequalities.
“The Incorpora Program is based on establishing alliances between social entities and the business sector, raising awareness about the importance of diversity and encouraging social and work integration. This model transforms territories and impacts lives”, highlights Marc Simón, Deputy General Director of the ”la Caixa” Foundation.
Concrete results and impact sectors
Thanks to this network collaboration model, 1,746 new hires were made in 2024, which represents not only a gateway to the world of work but also a new opportunity to transform the lives of these people in vulnerable situations.
Sectors such as hotels, restaurants, commerce, civil construction, cleaning services, gardening and social support services were essential to realizing these opportunities, which involved a total of 906 companies from north to south of the country.
ReIncorpora: inclusion for new beginnings
A highlight of the Incorpora Program is the ReIncorpora project, aimed at people who have been in prison to help them improve their skills, reinforce their values, confidence and motivation, and enhance their personal and professional skills. For this reason, the ”la Caixa” Foundation, in partnership with the General Directorate of Reintegration and Prison Services, launched this project. Through personalized itineraries that reinforce skills, confidence and motivation, the project aims to offer people deprived of liberty the opportunity to build a different future, first through their social and labour reintegration.
After a pilot project in 2023 in four prisons in the Lisbon Metropolitan Area, which received a very positive evaluation, the initiative was expanded in 2024 to three prisons in the Porto district. With this, 36 people who were deprived of liberty have already been integrated into the job market throughout the year, thanks to ReIncorpora.
Over 9,500 lives transformed since 2018
The Incorpora Program of the ”la Caixa” Foundation has as its main objective to promote the labour inclusion of people at risk of social exclusion.
Since its launch in 2018 in Portugal, more than 9,500 people in vulnerable situations have found employment through Incorpora. This was possible thanks to the collaboration of 52 social entities and more than 3,100 socially responsible companies from different sectors. This partnership model reaffirms the commitment of the Incorpora Program of the “la Caixa” Foundation to building a more just, inclusive and supportive society.
