Directed by Éric Deniaud; at the Cine-Teatro da Academia Almadense there will be another premiere: Ventos do apocalypse, with text and staging by Noé João based on the homonymous work by Paulina Chiziane. The show results from the collaboration between Teatro Griot and Artistas Unidos.
Ventos do apocalipse, published in 1993 and set against the background of the Mozambican civil war, addresses concepts such as destruction, misery, suffering, hatred, superstition and death. For Angolan director Noé João, it is important to address “the issue of memory, reflected in the actor’s body and expression. Each scene, each moment, takes us to a place of memory, be it war, suffering or humiliation. This memory space is also a way of proposing the audience’s interaction with the show”. Mozambican writer Paulina Chiziane (b. 1955) was the first woman in her country to publish a novel.
With Balada de amor ao vento, which he published in 1990 on the theme of polygamy, he began a career that currently has more than ten published works, for which he received the José Craveirinha Prize for Literature (2003), the degree of Grand Official of Order of Infante D. Henrique (2013) and the Camões Prize (2021). Among the books he published are, among others: The Seventh Oath, The Swallows, The Joyful Song of the Partridge, In the Hand of God, For Whom the Drums of the Beyond Vibrate, and The Song of the Enslaved.
