‘Mal Viver’ by João Canijo wins Silver Bear

João Canijo won the Silver Bear for the jury prize at the 73rd Berlin Film Festival this Saturday.

Canijo thanked the production and distribution team, the entire team that created the film with him, “composed almost entirely of women”, highlighting the director of photography, Leonor Teles.

This year’s winner of the Golden Bear for Best Film, the festival’s top prize, was ‘Sur l’Adamant’, by French director Nicolas Philibert. ‘Roter Himmel’, by German director Christian Petzold, received the Silver Bear Grand Jury Prize.

Philippe Garrel, for ‘Le Grand Chariot’, received the Silver Bear for Best Director, the young Sofía Otero received the Silver Bear for Best Performance in ‘20,000 especies de bees’, the first feature film by the Spanish Estibaliz Urresola Solaguren. Thea Ehre received the Silver Bear for Best Supporting Performance in ‘Bis ans Ende der Nacht’, by German Christoph Hochhäusler.

In Short Films, the Golden Bear went to ‘Les chenilles’, by the Lebanese brothers Michelle and Noel Keserwany, who was thus nominated for the European Film Awards.
