The essence of Italy is back on the banks of the Douro. From July 25th to 29th, Avenida Diogo Leite, next to the Interactive Tourism Store, will host the 7th edition of the Italian Festival, which promises to transform the Guaíba waterfront into a movie-worthy setting.
With free admission, this event invites everyone to celebrate Italian culture in the middle of summer.
For five days, the Italian Festival offers a vibrant program, packed with tradition, sounds, authentic flavours, interactive workshops, family activities, and memorable experiences. A true journey to Italy, without leaving Gaia, where music, gastronomy, and cultural exchange will be the highlight.
Imagine yourself strolling along the Gaia waterfront, surrounded by the irresistible aroma of pizzas fresh from the oven, lulled by the joyful rhythm of traditional percussion, and captivated by live performances that span generations and styles. At the Italian Festival, authenticity is the key ingredient. Learn the secrets of pizza from renowned masters, marvel at the gravity-defying acrobatic pizza shows starring champions Georgio Nazir and Saverio Labate, or be swept away by the vibrant energy of the GAP’S Orchestra, performing in Portugal for the first time, alongside names like Mimmo Nardo, Daniele Pistone, Anonima Nuvolari, Malotira, and Fratelli Celentano, among many other talents who will liven up the stage every night.
The Italian Festival is much more than sounds and melodies; it’s a true cultural immersion that promises to delight all ages. During the event, you can participate in free, interactive workshops designed for all tastes and ages: from “Pizza per Bambini,” where little ones learn how to make pizza, to “Mamma, che Gelato!”, which unveils the secrets of artisanal ice cream; and “Mamma, che Gnocchi!” and “Mamma, che Pasta!”, where you can learn how to make these specialties in traditional Italian, and the “Italiano Espresso” workshop, where you can discover the Italian language in a fun and relaxed way. For children, there are also creative workshops and the Bambini Disco, a party full of colour, music, and magic, where face painting helps transform little ones into a true fantasy universe.
For the most discerning palates, the Festival offers a permanent food stall area, where you can indulge in an irresistible selection of Italian dishes: crispy pizzas, pinsa romana, fresh pasta, gnocchi, creamy risottos, traditional lasagnas, succulent paninis, burgers with an Italian touch, delicious desserts, artisanal ice cream, and a wide selection of drinks that promise to complete this sensory journey.
Among the most surprising moments of the Italian Festival is “Il Conciorto,” an innovative concert performed on stage by Carlone x Bagini, where vegetables transform into musical instruments in a creative and unique experience that promises to fascinate the audience. For lovers of elegance and automotive history, the permanent exhibition of classic Alfa Romeos adds a special touch to the event, celebrating Italian design, passion, and tradition that inspire generations. The program also includes the vibrant Holi Fest, an explosion of colour and joy that will captivate and excite every visitor.
The president of the Associazione Sapori Italiani, Michele Mezzero, emphasises: “The Italian Festival represents a fundamental platform for the promotion of Italian culture and gastronomy in Portugal. This event is a genuine expression of our heritage and a stimulus for the continued development and recognition of Italian culinary art, while strengthening cultural ties between Italy and Portugal.”
Organised by the Associazione Sapori Italiani in partnership with the Gaia City Council, the Italian Festival reaffirms itself as the largest and most exciting event dedicated to Italian culture in Portugal, where everyone is invited to celebrate the true Italian soul.
