Manuel Alegre wins António Ramos Rosa award
The poet Manuel Alegre is the winner of the António Ramos Rosa National Poetry Prize, after the jury unanimously distinguished his book ‘Quando’.
In this work, Manuel Alegre expresses the marks of current reality, but transcending the circumstance through a writing that breaks with the poet’s habits, and this renewal of one of the strongest voices in Portuguese poetry is noteworthy.
This award, of which seven editions have already taken place, in 1999, 2001, 2007, 2009, 2015, 2017 and 2019, seeks to promote the appearance of new poets, but also to recognize the work of those already established.
The award ceremony will take place on the 4th of September, in the auditorium of the Municipal Library of Faro António Ramos Rosa.
The award jury is made up of poet, critic and professor Nuno Júdice, professor Carina Infante do Carmo, professor at the University of Algarve, and journalist and writer Isabel Lucas.
After its interruption in 2009, the prize was recovered in 2015, currently presenting a cash value of 5,000 euros and being awarded biannually since then.
