Manuel de Oliveira presents IBERIA 20|22 live
with Jorge Pardo, Carles Benavent and Orquestra Clássica do Centro
Manuel de Oliveira presents his new album IBÉRIA 20|22 live, on the 15th of January, Convento de São Francisco in Coimbra, 17h00.
IBÉRIA 20|22, is the album that marks not only the 20-year career of this Portuguese musician and composer, but also his first album IBÉRIA, a project that inaugurated a partnership with Spanish musicians Jorge Pardo and Carles Benavent, founders of the sextet of Paco de Lucia, and with whom Manuel de Oliveira has maintained close and very special complicity.
It will be, for all these reasons, a very special concert, with a double celebration, on the one hand of Manuel de Oliveira’s musical path and, on the other hand, the edition of his debut album, which the new IBÉRIA 20|22 continues.
In this concert, accompanying Manuel de Oliveira’s classical and braguesa guitars, Jorge Pardo’s winds, and Carles Benavent’s bass, will be the Orquestra Clássica do Centro, under the direction and arrangements of maestro Carlos Garcia, in a re-interpretation of eleven works from the universe of about 40 created around the IBÉRIA project.
In Manuel de Oliveira’s music, frontier, territory, community and identity will always be key words. If every artist looks for an original way of expressing himself, in Oliveira – from the first Iberia to the most recent Entre-Lugar – music is always an attempt to rebuild a territory and an identity, the constant search for something always unfinished, like a community or a voice.
In this constant existential metamorphosis, as a guitarist, composer and producer, he has revealed to us, over more than 20 years, a work of unique identity, immediately recognizable in its constant mutation.
