Porto Marathon returns to the road in November and brings a route with news

Back on the road after taking place in virtual format in 2020, given the pandemic situation, the Porto Marathon will have a new route for the 42 km race.

It’s less than a month for athletes and running enthusiasts to challenge their limits in the Porto Marathon. The race that has been taking place on the Atlantic front since 2004 is back on the road, with several new features and a safety plan approved by the General Directorate of Health.

This year, the organization announced, the Porto Marathon will take place in the cities of Porto and Matosinhos. A decision related to the fact that the lower deck of the Luís I bridge is being intervened by Infraestruturas de Portugal, as part of the rehabilitation works of that crossing, which is why it will not be possible to cross to the side of Vila Nova de Gaia.

On the other hand, the place where the event’s arrival is usually located, the Queimódromo, currently houses the Covid-19 Testing Center, making it impossible to occupy it with the structure of the competition’s goal. Thus, the arrival of the three races – the EDP Porto Marathon (42 km), the APO Family Race Corrida dos Ossos Saudáveis (10 km) and the EDP Fun Race (6 km) – will be at Avenida do Parque, next to Parque da City.

The match is scheduled for 9 am next to Sea Life Porto, in Via do Castelo do Queijo, and will be made by groups in order to improve the spacing between the athletes. The organization promises “the biggest starting zone ever” so that all athletes have space and tranquility to run the race safely.

Registration for the tests that are part of the Porto Marathon program are available until November 2 at www.maratonadoporto.com.
