The President of the Republic today took the Cape Verdean counterpart, José Carlos Fonseca, to the premises of the Food Bank in Lisbon, experiencing both product separation tasks, between 2:00 and 2:30.
Surrounded by dozens of volunteers, many in the scout uniform and animated by the sound system of the central warehouse, in Alcântara, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa and his guest helped to unload food, transported before trucks on pallets by freight lifts and forklift trucks.
The products were donated by thousands of Portuguese in several supermarkets, including the head of state, which used more than 200 euros in the early afternoon in goods for disadvantaged people.
“It is a national work, which is above all, governments, oppositions, parties, sensitivities, social sectors, mobilizes 40,000 volunteers, overwhelmingly overwhelming young people,” described Rebelo de Sousa eagerly, flanked by the cicerone of service, president of the Bank Food, Isabel Jonet.
For the President of the Republic “to see this in action is a unique opportunity to exchange impressions and show the history of how we got here,” because “it was many years to achieve success in terms of membership of the Portuguese,” justified in relation to the invitation to Jorge Carlos Fonseca.
The Cape Verdean head of state said it was “a sympathy for President Rebelo de Sousa.”
“We are coming from the Cape Verde Gala Success, a great party and he invited me from moment to moment to come with him to see this fantastic experience for the amplitude of these gestures of solidarity. I am especially impressed by the number of young people this mobilizes, at this hour, excited, they sing, making this campaign against hunger, ” he said.
