This official Twitter account of the Presidency of the Republic, which has the user name @presidencia, already existed but had never been used by the current head of state, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa.
According to a source from the Presidency of the Republic, it was created in November 2008, in the first term of the former head of state, Aníbal Cavaco Silva, started to be used in January 2009 and was active until the end of his second term, which ended on March 9, 2016.
It was suspended until March 2017 and last Monday, March 8, it again obtained the status of verified account of the sovereignty body Presidency of the Republic.
Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa took office on Tuesday for a second term as President of the Republic, after being elected with 60.67% of the votes cast in the presidential elections of January 24 this year.
