Marcelo participates in the ceremonies of the 100 years of Armistice
The President of the Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, participates in the ceremonies in Paris of the centenary of the end of World War I, along with French President Emmanuel Macron and over 100 heads of state.
UN Secretary-General António Guterres, US Presidents Donald Trump and Russian Vladimir Putin, German Chancellor Angela Merkel, and King Philippe of Spain are among the world leaders present at the ceremony. Arc de Triomphe, opposite the tomb of the unknown soldier.
The ceremony begins “at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month”, such as the ceasefire in 1918, with military honors and homage to the dead, followed by the national anthem of France.
Emmanuel Macron will speak at the ceremony, which will be marked by several musical moments, such as the performance of Chinese-American cellist Yo-Yo Ma and the Youth Orchestra of the European Union (EU).
After the ceremony, the heads of state have an official lunch at the Elysée Palace, and in the afternoon they participate in the Paris Forum on Peace, in the opening speech of Angela Merkel and António Guterres.
The Forum, which concludes the celebrations, will bring together 60 heads of state and 30 international organizations to discuss global security.
The Portuguese President will participate, together with the heads of state of Colombia, Juan Manuel Santos, and of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari, in a masterclass or an open class with students from the prestigious university of political science of Paris Sciences.
