The President of the Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, lamented today the death of DN journalist José David Lopes, who took place on Saturday, underlining the “passion for journalism that characterized his career.”
Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa said in a note published on the website of the Presidency of the Republic that “many of his reports” were published in the Diário de Notícias newspaper, namely the “historic volcanic eruption in Cape Verde”.
“Keeping in mind many of his reports in the Diário de Notícias, such as the historic volcanic eruption in Cape Verde, the President of the Republic also recalls the rigor, the news sense and the passion for journalism that characterized his career”, sending family of José David Lopes their condolences.
José David Lopes has practiced all his long journalistic career in the Diário de Notícias, from 1969 to 2006, having done almost all the possible functions for a journalist in a newspaper.
In an article published on the Diário de Notícias website, with the title “José David Lopes, the journalist who married the DN died”, journalist José António Santos recalls that in the life of the reporter “what always counted, first, ahead even of personal interest, was the Diário de Notícias. ”
José David Lopes leaves five children of three relations, the last of which is with the DN Cadi Fernandes journalist, also deceased. His third son, Ricardo David Lopes, also started his profession at Diário de Notícias, and is now based in Angola.
The wake, in the Church of St. George of Arroios, in Lisbon, happens today from 17.00. The funeral is scheduled for Monday, at the Alto de São João cemetery, at noon.
