Márcia Carvalho presents “Bem”

New single from her debut EP

“Bem talks about what makes me uneasy, about all the things that drain my energy, time and vitality. It shows an immense desire to want peace without being able to achieve it. Out of fear, out of guilt… there is always something that drains us, that leaves us empty. I tried to convey this absence of peace in a danceable rhythm that, ironically, helps me find it”Márcia Carvalho, artist

The music video, directed by André Macedo with creative direction shared with Márcia Carvalho, is a raw, symbolic and emotional representation of something that many of us experience: the constant effort to look good, even when it leaves us empty inside.

With a minimalist aesthetic, the video visually expands what the song already conveys: containers that consume us in our daily lives and distance us from our peace, our comfort zone, and our well-being.

About the song

Bem” is the second single from Márcia Carvalho’s debut EP, with lyrics and music by her and production by Ivo Magalhães and Areias (20to20kStudio).

The song delves into an atmospheric and intimate alt-pop, marked by soft synthesisers, restrained arrangements and a vulnerable, almost confessional vocal delivery.

There is a cyclical flow, as if we were breathing inside the song, between anxiety and clarity, between restlessness and reunion. “Bem” is not a song of certainties, but rather an honest portrait of a restless mind, trapped between the desire to be well and the weight of what prevents it.

The repetition of verses works as a guiding thread, almost like an inner whisper or a mantra that reminds us where to return. The song shows us how mental patterns can sabotage well-being even when everything seems calm. There is a desire for light, but also a fear of letting it in.

With a light, almost danceable tempo, “Bem” contrasts with the emotional density of the song. It speaks of the anxiety of not being able to escape it, of being in a cycle that consumes you and where the sun always seems to be outside.

Bem” is an attempt to transform restlessness into movement, like someone dancing to chase away their troubles. It is a brief escape from exhaustion, a rhythmic gesture of resistance against what drains us. In just three minutes, the song offers a place where perhaps good exists, even if for a short time.

Bem” is the second single from Márcia Carvalho’s debut EP — a project where each song gives voice to a different concern.

After “Sol Poente”, which addressed the end of a relationship and the urgency to start over, this new theme delves deeper: in an internal, intimate layer, the fight against anxiety, fear and guilt that we often feel without knowing why.

The EP will be a body of songs written at different times, but linked by the same common thread: “The desire to transform vulnerability into strength, and introspection into art”.

Each track balances the acoustic side of the composition with alternative pop arrangements, creating a sound that is both intimate and contemporary.

It will be a 100% Portuguese album, where emotion is always at the centre, made for those who listen with their heart, even when the words hurt.

Under the musical direction of Ivo Magalhães and Areias (20to20kStudio), the EP presents a cohesive and emotionally honest sound identity. The production is simple, but intentionally designed to amplify the density of the lyrics.

Musically, it combines influences from introspective alt-pop, soft electronics and an almost lo-fi aesthetic, always focusing on emotional truth. Each song inhabits its own space, some more ethereal, others more rhythmic, but they all share the same desire: to give voice to what worries us, without artifice.

The result is a direct, intimate and raw album, where the production does not hide vulnerability; on the contrary, it exposes it with care and truth.

Biography

Márcia Carvalho is a singer and songwriter born in Viana do Castelo, raised in Vila Real, and currently living in Porto.

Involved in music since an early age, she trained in violin and oboe, and is self-taught on piano and ukulele. After several projects, she now performs solo with a proposal of emotional alternative pop, sung in Portuguese.

After her debut with the single “Sol Poente”, she now releases “Bem”, the second track on her debut EP, a work that mixes fragility and strength, exploring inner concerns with poetic lyrics and minimalist production.

Her sound inhabits the intersection between alternative pop, sung poetry and the raw vulnerability of those who write to understand themselves. With lyrics in Portuguese and a stripped-down sound aesthetic, Márcia explores dense emotions with a lightness that welcomes, between soft synthesisers, delicate vocal harmonies and restrained beats.

There is room for silence, repetition and introspection. Suausical both soothes and disturbs. It’s unhurried pop, made to play deep rather than loud.
