Marcos Freitas in the third preliminary round of the Australian Open

Portugal’s Marcos Freitas has qualified for the third preliminary round of the Australian Open in table tennis in Geelong, beating Indian Amalraj Anthony 4-1.

Marcos Freitas, 30th in the world ranking, beat Amalraj, 122nd of the men’s hierarchy with the ease of 11-8, 7-11, 11-7, 11-5 and 11-7.

On Wednesday, in the third preliminary round, which precedes the first round of the mainframe, Marcos Freitas will face the Egyptian Omar Assar (58th in the world), starting at 18:00 local time (09:00 in Lisbon).

Portugal’s Fu Yu had also been scheduled to take part in the race but was unable to attend due to a lack of a connecting flight between China and Australia.
