Maria João is one of the authors invited to participate in the Festival da Canção 2024, the year in which the RTP program celebrates 60 years of existence.
Maria João’s career has been guided by participation in the most renowned music festivals in the world. A journey that began at the Hot Clube de Portugal Jazz School and which, in just a few years, went beyond borders, making Maria João one of the few Portuguese singers acclaimed abroad. The official recognition of the dissemination of Portuguese culture throughout the world earned him the Commendation of the Order of Infante D. Henrique at the hands of President Jorge Sampaio. She is also the only Portuguese artist to have been nominated for the European Jazz Prize.
Possessing a unique style, she became a point of reference in the difficult and competitive field of improvised music. A remarkable vocal capacity and a singular interpretative intensity earned her not only international recognition but also inclusion in the gallery of the best singers of today. With unanimous applause, critics and the public named her “a voice taken to the ultimate consequences”, declaring her “a singer who never stops evolving”.
