After the release of her debut album, Circulo, in 2022, and with much more “road” in her baggage, singer-songwriter Mariana Dalot now launched the EP Tempo.
A project that portrays the various phases of the end of a connection with someone and the “time” it takes to overcome a less good phase of life.
Tempo contains five intimate and personal tracks, and a well-defined concept, which is told through music. As has been customary in the journey of this author and multi-instrumentalist, all the songs on the EP have lyrics and music by Mariana Dalot.
In Tempo, they are recorded in the chronological order in which they were written and happening. They tell the process of finding someone (“Fios do mesmo laço”); realizing that one has been happy, but that sometimes things don’t go as we want (“Tive azar em ser feliz”); the time it takes to accept that we are not well (“Precisava de parar o tempo”); the period of acceptance that life goes on and one needs to move forward (“O mundo não pára de girar”); and the light at the end of the tunnel, when we least expect it (“Pequena, tão pequena”).
“Healing takes its time, this journey helped me and I hope it helps anyone who listens and wants to embark on it too,” explains the author.
The Tempo was produced by Francisco Sales and mixed by Nuno Simões and was recorded at Slow Music studios with the participation of Pity on bass, Francisco Sales on guitar, Iuri Oliveira on percussion, Patrick Ferreira on piano, and Sandra Martins on cello.
On October 10th, at Espaço Moche in Lisbon, Mariana Dalot gave the first live presentation of the new EP, accompanied on piano by Patrick Ferreira. In her “natural habitat,” which is the stage, Mariana is surprised with a crescendo of emotions, from the older songs to the new tracks from Tempo, which the audience made a point of singing along to by heart. An intimate and magical night that opened the curtain for what is still to come.
About MARIANA DALOT
Mariana Dalot, a 28-year-old singer-songwriter from Braga, completed her entire school journey at the Calouste Gulbenkian Conservatory of Music in Braga. In high school, she took a Musical Training course, completed the 5th grade of piano, and had singing lessons starting from the 10th year, and flute lessons for 3 years. Later, the artist completed 1 year of singing courses at the Gaia Higher Conservatory.
That same year (2015), she moved to London, where she took a higher course in Popular Music Performance – Vocals at the prestigious British and Irish Modern Music Institute. In London, the artist had her first direct contact with all musical styles outside of Classical and played on stage with a band for the first time.
The artist and multi-instrumentalist discovered her pop identity, unpretentious, acoustic, and with a fairly intimate side—because it is in the songs that she finds her way to express emotions.
In 2022, she released her debut album, “Circulo,” distributed by Universal Music Portugal, and performed throughout the country, in her name. At Novo Ático in Coliseu do Porto, at Carlos Paredes Auditorium in Lisbon, and in the opening acts of Rui Veloso’s concerts at Coliseu do Porto and Olga Cadaval Cultural Center in Sintra, Diogo Piçarra at the Festas do Mar in Cascais, and Os Quatro e Meia in Vieira do Minho. Additionally, she participated in the concert of Carolina Deslandes at Theatro Circo in Braga.
In the final stretch of 2024, she introduces us to Tempo, her most recent EP.
