Marimba Exhibition in Porto and Lisbon
Photographic Exhibition Reveals the Roots and Ancestry of Peoples
The travelling exhibition “Marimba” opens in Porto in August and continues in Lisbon in September. This photography exhibition presents a sensitive and documentary perspective on the experiences lived during the field activities of the project of the same name.
Visitors will be able to observe approximately three dozen images revealing the roots and ancestry of peoples from countries participating in the Marimba project, travelling to remote lands and exotic cultures, experiencing different realities, some still little known in Europe.
In Porto, the exhibition runs from August 16th to September 6th at the Palacete dos Viscondes de Balsemão. In Lisbon, the exhibition will run from September 11th to 27th at the Galeria Studio CreativeRez.
Projeto Marimba
This initiative aims to promote musical production in Angola, Guinea-Bissau, Mozambique, and East Timor through research, digitisation, and promotion. The initiative also promotes the international distribution of phonographic products and associated artists, aiming to contribute to the recovery of the cultural identity of the countries and regions involved and their dissemination, as well as to promote the socioeconomic inclusion of women and the sustainability of the sector’s agents.
It is, in fact, an unprecedented initiative, aimed at employability, dynamism, and research in the field of music in these four countries, under the motto “music, intangible heritage.”
As a transnational project, Marimba’s main visibility and communication structure is based on its digital platform, which promotes the project’s ongoing activities collaboratively and with an effective presence in each of the participating countries.
Three Years of Travel
As part of this project, over the past three years, numerous trips to the target territories have been made, resulting in the compilation of a series of memorable photographs that will now be on display.
Captured by various artists, the images portray the realities of the local cultures visited, demonstrating ethnography and local daily life.
An exhibition not to be missed, promoted as part of this initiative funded by the European Union, co-financed and managed by Camões, I.P.O.
