Marta Pereira da Costa starts touring the United States
Guitarist Marta Pereira da Costa, honoured by the Amália Rodrigues Foundation with the Best Instrumentalist Award in 2014, starts today in San Jose, California, a tour of the United States, which is going through the SXSW South by Southwest Festival.
[dropcap type=”background”]I[/dropcap]n this tour, which begins today at the Portuguese Church of the Seven Chagas, in San José, California, the guitarist will present themes from her debut solo album, published in October 2016, “as well as some new songs in her own name” of its promoter.
From San José, Marta Pereira da Costa goes to Washington, where she works on Friday at the Portuguese embassy, and the next day at the John F. Kennedy Performing Arts Center Millennium Room.
From 11 to 13 the guitarist is in Austin, Texas, where he plays the SXSW South by Southwest Festival (SXSW).
The festival’s poster, which includes lectures, debates, films, new company presentations and several concerts simultaneously, also features in this edition the Portuguese trio Vaarwell, who plans to publish a new EP in February, which will be presented on the stage of SXSW.

Marta Pereira da Costa’s tour continues on March 14 at the 360 Center Atrium of the Lincoln Center in New York, and the next day she takes to the stage of the DROM, also in New York, finishing the tour on the 16th, in the Narrows, in Fall River.

In May 2017, Marta Pereira da Costa presented the debut album at the Tivoli, in Lisbon, and has performed several performances in Portugal and abroad.
The guitarist, as a guest, participated in 2005 in a show by guitarist Mário Pacheco, which resulted in the CD / DVD “The Music and the Guitar – Clube de Fado“, nominated by the British magazine Songlines as one of the ten best albums of the year.
In 2008, Pereira da Costa participated as a soloist on the CD “Fados d’Alma“, by fado singer Rodrigo Costa Félix, and participated in the recording of the theme “Pasa“, inserted in the album “Unidad de Canciones Intensivas“, in which he participated at the invitation of composer and Spanish producer Jaime Roldán.
In 2011 he returned to a CD by Rodrigo Costa Félix, “Fados de Amor“, which, according to information from the Fado Museum, is “the first record in the history of fado in which the Portuguese guitar is played exclusively” and that was honoured with the Amália Award for Best Album in 2012, the year that the guitarist began his solo career, having premiered in Toronto, Canada.
