Martim Nunes was crowned twice national Pro Junior champion today at Praia do Mirante, in Santa Cruz. The 19-year-old surfer once again imposed his surfing on this year’s Junior Tour, winning the second consecutive title of his career in the Under-20 category.
Martim won the 1st stage of the Junior Tour in Porto and Matosinhos and was runner-up in the 2nd stage held in Viana do Castelo. With the 3rd stage taking place this weekend in Santa Cruz, the local surfer from Praia Grande won this year’s title even before the event ended, as his most direct opponents no longer have a chance of surpassing him in the ranking.
“I’m very happy to be national champion Pro Junior again”, said the champion. “It’s still a weird feeling because I haven’t surfed yet. But being champion for the second time in a row has an even more special flavor. This circuit that ANS does in partnership with FPS helps us a lot because, despite the fact that we are no longer under-18, we continue to have the Junior Tour so that we can take bigger steps in our lives and in our careers as athletes. I am happy and confident with the work I have been doing. Now I want to make the most of the championship that lies ahead. My goal remains the same. I thank my family, my coaches, sponsors, and friends for always being by my side and supporting me”, he concluded.
The Projunior Santa Cruz action continues until tomorrow and can be followed through the live scores system at ansurfistas.com.
Projunior Santa Cruz is an organization of Onda Pura and the National Association of Surfers, is part of the Ocean Spirit Festival, and has the local support of the Municipality of Torres Vedras and the technical support of the Portuguese Surfing Federation.
