Maruja Live in Porto 9 October

One of the most exciting bands on the new Indie scene

Maruja will make their debut in Portugal on October 9th with Crowdmusic at the Socorro venue in Porto.

Maruja only has 2 EPs and a few singles and is one of the new bands coming out of the United Kingdom with the most buzz generated, captivating critics, publications and the public.

Manchester band’s meteoric rise

Maruja hails from Manchester and offers a unique sound. Researching Maruja we can see that they call themselves different genre statements, such as Jazz-Punk, Art-Rock, Post-Hardcore, and a bunch of other labels, but the most important thing is that they are something different. Some compare them to Black Country New Road or Black Midi, more because of the need people have to organize things in boxes than because of the similarity of their sounds. The only similarity is that in all these bands there is a saxophone, and that’s it.

In an interview with Stat Magazine in 2023, Maruja were not unaware that some of the attention they received may have also come through this route, but they do not recognize influences from these bands or great similarity in the music they make. In fact, the members of Maruja name different influences, from the post-rock of Swans to the jazz or hip-hop of Kamasi Washington, Little Sims, Kendrick Lamar, Tupac, and even electronic dance music.

His 1st EP Knocknarea was #1 of 2023 on the Rate Your Music website and rave reviews multiplied in publications such as Album of the Year, Sputnik Music, among others. Well-known critic and YouTuber Anthony Fantano placed Knocknarea in his top 3 EPs of 2023.

Since then they have been featured on BBC-6, being part of its playlists and live acts, creating a crescendo of expectation until the release of Connla’s Well, their 2nd EP released in April this year.

Great on Record, Breathtaking Live

The only thing that goes beyond reviews of your music are reviews of your live performances. Explosive, immersive, authentic sonic experiences. Maruja is a master at exploring the dynamics of their music, building in each of them an experience with a beginning, middle and end, where there is a lot of improvisation and an interaction between the feeling of the room and the dynamics of the band.

After a completely sold-out tour in the United Kingdom, Maruja announced a European tour with around 40 dates. On October 9th, don’t miss a unique concert in Porto, which no one will be indifferent to. Tickets are on sale from Friday at See Tickets.

Always confirm with the concert hall or promoter the conditions of access, confirmation of the date or time, ticket place of sale, price, and availability.
