In addition to three exhibitions and other parallel events, 26 chamber music concerts are planned to take place in Marvão and in the neighboring towns of Portalegre, Castelo de Vide, and Valencia de Alcântara (Spain).
One of the highlights will go to the opening gala, on Friday, with Juliane Banse (soprano), Lena Neudauer (violin), Martin Ney (flute), Horácio Ferreira (clarinet), and the Cologne Chamber Orchestra, directed by the conductor Christoph Poppen.
According to the organization, several absolute premieres are planned in Portugal, including the composition “Post Lucem”, for the string quartet, commissioned by the Marvão International Music Festival to the Catalan composer Ferran Cruixent, whose performance is scheduled for Sunday.
Another of the festival’s highlights is the cycle dedicated to Beethoven’s String Quartets, performed by six groups, from different origins, Portuguese and foreign.
This year, more than 100 musicians from more than 10 countries, including Armenia, Belarus, Australia, and South Korea participate.
