Matilde Leite Releases “Medo” in Collaboration with Rita Onofre

Matilde Leite, a singer-songwriter from Lisbon who is making her debut with original music, releases a new single in anticipation of her debut album. “Medo” is a collaboration with Rita Onofre.

In the artist’s words, “this song talks about the voices that occupy our thoughts. The whirlwind that never stops, the loop of thoughts that brings the past into the present. It’s about wanting silence and not being able to.” This brings with it the “fear of not being enough,” of not being “enough,” the “splinters in the body” of past traumas, and our wavering self-love and love for others.

It’s a song written and composed with a very honest, raw, and unfiltered way, the way Matilde Leite has presented herself in these first releases, in a career that is still emerging in Portuguese pop music but has already sparked the interest of fans and curious listeners.

Musically, the song moves like a head: it repeats, rewinds, returns to the same place—and it’s in these movements that it gains strength. It doesn’t romanticise the drama; it embraces it. And transforms it into art, a refuge for anyone.

Medo” is composed by Matilde Leite, Rita Onofre, and Miguele. Produced by Miguele, vocals by Matilde Leite, Rita Onofre, and RIMA, and drums by Francisco Santos. The video was handled by Lucas Coelho and Billy Verdasca.

Matilde Leite’s debut album is supported by the Portuguese Society of Authors.
