After the confirmation of one of the biggest Portuguese bands of all time, Da Weasel, the new confirmation brings one of the most requested names and one of the biggest representatives of trap today: Matuê, on August 7th, in the next edition of Festival Sudoeste.
Matuê is one of the most promising names in Brazilian hip-hop, considered the biggest name in trap in that country. The rapper was born in Fortaleza in October 1993 but was raised in California, in the United States. And these two worlds end up being reflected in his artistic personality. Rhythms and beats have always occupied a prominent place in his life, motivated by a family that is also passionate about music.
During a complicated adolescence, even more so after the death of his grandfather, a reference for Matuê, the young man found in music the ideal means to express himself, giving voice to his concerns and, therefore, also to the concerns of thousands of young people with similar experiences. “RBN”, released in 2016, marked Matuê’s debut and immediately caught the public’s attention due to the originality of the sound and the unique cadence with which he launches each word.
Throughout this journey in music, Matuê has never stopped taking risks and wanting to do something different. And, after a succession of successful singles, such as “Anos Luz” or “A Morte do Autotune”, the rapper released his debut album in 2020. “Máquina do Tempo”, released by Matuê’s music label, 30PRAUM, confirmed all the best expectations surrounding his music.
Singles like the album’s title track or “777-666” have already surpassed 100 million views on YouTube. “Máquina do Tempo” reached the top 15 on Spotify and, with this unprecedented achievement, the artist broke the record for the biggest debut of an album on streaming platforms, opening the doors for Trap to become one of the most listened-to genres on the internet. Brazilian public.
But Matuê has even more impressive numbers on his resume: the single “Kenny G”, for example, released in 2019, has already reached more than 200 million views on YouTube, contributing to Matuê’s overwhelming fame. More recent songs, such as “VAMPiro”, with Teto & WIU, only confirm the rapper’s talent and his ability to reach the millions of fans who follow him today.
This popularity phenomenon will pass through Portugal in 2024, on August 7th, in the next edition of the Sudoeste Festival.
