Maya Blandy presents “Calor” and announces concert at Musicbox

The young artist, Maya, of Australian, German and British origin grew up in Madeira.
The single “Calor” marks the debut in Portuguese of the young singer and songwriter Maya Blandy in the world of national music. The song was produced by Jake Wherry, renowned producer and founder of the jazz/hip-hop band The Herbaliser. The single’s authorship is shared by Maya and Jake Wherry. The song explores Afrobeats and R’n’B sounds with poetic lyrics about love and nature. The video was filmed in Madeira, and directed by Michel de Freitas.
Maya will perform for the first time in Portugal, at MusicBox, in Lisbon, on June 27, at 9:30 pm. The artist fuses rhythms and soul melodies / Rhythm and blues with the contagious energy of the disc, the timeless appeal of pop and the sincere essence of soul and jazz.
Maya Blandy was born in Australia, and has an English and German family, but grew up in Madeira, where she has lived much of her life. Her childhood was influenced by various cultures and styles of music thus creating the unique style of the artist who explores jazz, soul, funk and Portuguese music. Maya loves arts: in her free time she paints, writes and reads. He has a deep love for marine biology and if he wasn’t making music he would probably follow that path. Maya studied music at the University of Manchester where she has spent the last 3 years of her life building her career.
The 21-year-old released her first single in 2023, “Stardust” (feat. Kathy Brown), produced by Jake Wherry. Since then the two have collaborated to create unique sounds that mix jazz, soul and R’n’B and have had international recognition with Airplay in England, Portugal, the United States and Japan (BBC Radio 6, Oxygen Radio, Antena 3 Madeira, among others).
In May this year, Maya Blandy released her first album Stardust with the participation of international artists such as Kathy Brown, Muneshine, Trevor Mires and Ryan Quigley.
In addition to the concert at the MusicBox, on June 27, the artist will also perform on July 20 at the Summer Opening Madeira; and at the Algazarra Festival, in Porto Santo, on August 15.
