On the 27th and 28th of June, the cultural festival is being held by the dstgroup for the city of Braga.

The dstgroup will celebrate the 30th anniversary of the dst Literature Grand Prize for 30 consecutive hours, through an unprecedented cultural festival. Starting at 6 pm on the 27th of June, the initiative will continue until the end of the 28th, visiting various locations in the city of Braga with diverse initiatives and renowned names in the national cultural scene.

The “30 hours 30 years of the dst Literature Grand Prize” Festival begins at the zet gallery, with the opening of Ana Vidigal’s exhibition, “Dias de Verão” (Summer Days), and ends with the gala to present the dst Literature Grand Prize to Luísa Costa Gomes. After causing more than half a thousand deaths on Antena 3, the show Vamos Todos Morrer by Hugo van der Ding and Tiago Ribeiro went from the radio studio straight to the stage. In this special edition, the artists will exhume the biographies of the incredible lives of former winners of the dst Literature Grand Prize who have already died. The show will take place on June 28, at 3 pm, at the dst school, on the dstgroup campus, in Braga.

The Companhia Nacional de Bailado will present its Danced Reading Club on the same day, at 5 pm, at Largo do Paço, which aims to combine reading with body expression, exploring how dance can abstractly interpret words, allowing participants to experience reading in a new and sensorial way. It is an experience of immersion in the body and words, as poetry does not live by words alone, nor does dance consist solely of gestures. This special session will address Camões today, thus celebrating the poet and his work through contemporary authors.

“We understand that celebrating literature is never too much. Celebrating amazement, joy and enchantment. We understand that literature and poetry facilitate the exit from darkness and make us look at the immense possibilities that, through culture, we have to be free”, says José Teixeira, chairman of the board of directors of the Braga-based business group.

“The entire program of this festival revolves around the expanded concept of words, in their multiple expressions. It starts with the written word and expands to sound, movement, touch, sight, and even taste, activating all the senses. Most of the proposals we make are participatory, even the most unusual ones, because we want participants to get physically and emotionally involved in this festival, in the Prize, and ultimately, in Literature,” says Miguel Pinho, director of the dstgroup creative department.

For three decades, the dst Literature Grand Prize has been a beacon of recognition and encouragement for Portuguese authors. This year, to celebrate this historic milestone, the 30th anniversary of the prize, in addition to the usual gala at the Theatro Circo, the group from Braga is surprising us with a versatile and multidisciplinary festival, with free access.

30 YEARS OF LITERATURE, 30 HOURS OF UNINTERRUPTED PROGRAMMING

The festival, which runs for 30 consecutive hours, is the living expression of the spirit of the award: a meeting between literature and other arts, in homage to the word and its creators. It has been 30 years recognising authors and fostering cultural dialogue that, this year, aims to be expressed through different artistic disciplines, uniting culture with the city and people.

From exhibitions and artistic presentations, poetry, writing, illustration, ceramics and weaving workshops; meditation; reading and sleeping parties; concerts; reading clubs and even parties with DJs, through this festival, the dstgroup makes it possible to encounter different artistic expressions.

DSTGROUP, A CULTURAL PATRON PAR EXCELLENCE

For the dstgroup, the festival “30 hours 30 years dst Literature Grand Prize” is the reinforcement of three decades of uninterrupted support for Portuguese literature.

The organization’s goal is for this commemorative edition of the dst Literature Grand Prize to be a testament to the value of words and the power of the arts, “to understand how to build a more just world, using literature as a tool for discovery, a trail, and a path blazed by writers,” says José Teixeira, president of the dstgroup.
