Tony Carreira, Mickael Carreira, Herman José, Mariza, Padre Borga and Joana Amendoeira are the main attractions of an event that is expected to attract thousands over the two days of the festival.
Medialivre, through Correio da Manhã and CMTV, and in collaboration with the promoter Música no Coração, announces the first edition of the Saudade Festival. This event, which celebrates the diversity of Portuguese music, from fado to popular music, will take place at the Fátima Heliport on the 15th and 16th of August. This festival was conceived as a cultural meeting point, aimed especially at emigrant families returning to Portugal in August. The Festival da Saudade wants to reflect the country’s rich musical identity and provide a welcoming atmosphere for returning home.
The festival will feature two stages that will welcome both national icons and new emerging talents. On the main stage, Herman José, Mickael Carreira and Mariza perform on the 15th, while Father José Luis Borga, Joana Amendoeira and Tony Carreira are the headliners on the following day, August 16th. On the second stage, musical diversity will be celebrated with performances ranging from Latin music by Lorenzo, through pop-rock by The Peorth, to popular music with Quim dos Apitos and traditional Portuguese folklore presented by Rancho Folclórica da Casa do Povo.
In addition to the music, the festival offers a true gastronomic journey in the food area, where it will be possible to taste a wide variety of regional delicacies, as well as an exhibition of local products and crafts, which reflect the essence of Portuguese tradition and hospitality. Doors open at 4 pm and performances start at 6 pm.
Tickets will be available from today, May 7th, at blueticket.meo.pt or at the festival site, with prices starting at 25 euros for an individual one-day ticket. Individual tickets are also available for both days for 35 euros, as well as special packages for families (4 people). As part of the organization’s commitment to the local community, 5% of the festival’s net box office revenue will be donated to CRIF, the Fátima Rehabilitation and Integration Center.
Luis Santana, CEO of Medialivre, states: “Correio da Manhã has been in the hearts of the Portuguese for 45 years, anywhere in the country or abroad. The Festival of Saudade will be the festival of Portugal’s identity. It brings together authentic musical traditions from internationally renowned artists, artists that span generations, and local musicians. In a place that represents so much for everyone, Fátima will be the festival of reuniting family and friends, the biggest meeting point for emigrants who take advantage of this time of year to return to their families. We are also concerned about giving back and, therefore, 5% of net box office proceeds go to CRIF.”
For Luis Miguel Albuquerque, president of Ourém City Council, “The Festival of Saudade was born as a tribute to Portuguese emigrants spread all over the world. It is also a fair thank you and deserved recognition for the strong contribution of the Portuguese diaspora to our country. Celebrating the essence and diversity of Portuguese music, the Festival da Saudade will also be a wonderful opportunity to highlight the qualities of our country and our region. Crafts, folklore and gastronomy will be just some of the countless wonders that will certainly make this event shine, which will also be a moment of unity and reunion for thousands of families.”
Luis Montez, from the promoter Música no Coração, states: “At Música no Coração we believe that Music, and especially live music and music festivals, unite people around moments of great emotion and happiness. It is therefore with great satisfaction that we are associated with the Festival da Saudade, which will certainly be an exciting moment of reunion for many thousands of Portuguese people in a place with so much meaning and to the sound of our Portuguese music”.
The Festival da Saudade aims to encourage family reunions and celebrate local and national talents, promote Portuguese cultural identity through a variety of musical genres, and boost cultural tourism in Fátima, creating unique memories and experiences of joy for the entire audience present.
