Men’s national team finishes second in table tennis

The gold medal was desired, but the mission was also very difficult. Portugal were runners-up in European table tennis on Sunday after losing in the final of the competition against champions Germany.

The Germans were stronger in all three matches and defeated the 3-0 team, thus giving Portugal no chance to take the gold as in the 2014 European Championship held in Lisbon.

Marcos Freitas lost his first meeting to Portugal, against Ovtcharov, João Monteiro was also defeated by Timo Ball and, finally, Tiago Apolónia could not do better and lost to Franziska in the last and last match of this European Championship. Germany thus validates the European title won in 2017.

A tasteful silver medal, which is the second in the European Championship, as the women’s table tennis team also won this Sunday’s European runner-up table tennis for the first time in history.
