Metropolitano de Lisboa signed the contract for the first contract for the network’s expansion plan, which foresees the extension of the Yellow and Green lines, in an investment that amounts to 48.6 million euros.
[dropcap]A[/dropcap]t the signing ceremony of the first contract for the Metropolitano de Lisboa network expansion plan, which took place at the company’s headquarters, in the center of the capital, with the presence of the Minister for the Environment and Climate Action, everyone wore a mask and went subject to temperature measurement due to the covid-19 pandemic.
Regarding the extension of the Yellow and Green lines, connecting the Rato to Cais do Sodré, the Chairman of the Metropolitano’s Board of Directors explained that this is a project of some complexity, because it will walk for more than 50 meters, where it will stay the Estrela station, will have some geotechnical problems next to ISEG and next to the Santos station entrance.
In addition to the complexity of the work, the administrator highlighted the will of the Metropolitano de Lisboa team and its tutelage, the Ministry of Environment and Climate Action, who stubbornly insisted on this project to extend the Yellow and Green lines for the construction of the Circular line.
At the contract signing ceremony, the executive director of ZAGOPE, expressed the expectation that the first undertaking of the network’s expansion plan will be the beginning of a new investment cycle in the expansion of the city’s current metro network.
With a history of over 50 years working in the engineering and construction sector of highly technical projects, the company ZAGOPE has, on several occasions, had the opportunity to provide its service to the Metropolitano de Lisboa, namely from 1992 to 2011, period in which he participated in 13 construction contracts, including the extension to the Rato station, a section which is now being continued.
The expansion plan for the Metropolitano de Lisboa network aims to contribute to improving mobility in the capital, by increasing accessibility and connectivity in public transport, as well as reducing travel times, promoting decarbonisation and sustainable mobility.
