The Portuguese rider Miguel Oliveira (KTM) hopes to “fight for the points” at the MotoGP Grand Prix of Spain, which takes place on Sunday in Jerez de la Frontera, “the circuit closest to Portugal” of the whole World Championship.
The Tech3 rider, therefore, expects that “many Portuguese people will be in attendance”, for a World Championship race of speed motorcycling that becomes “very special” for the only Portuguese in the competition.
“It’s a very nice race, above all because it’s very close to Portugal. It’s the Grand Prix closer to home and so there are a lot of fans going to watch, which makes it very special for me,” said Miguel Oliveira, in statements released today by his team’s communications advisor.
Jerez was also one of the tracks in which the Portuguese tested with the new MotoGP bike in the preseason: “I’m looking forward to another race there. After the tests in November, there are some aspects of my driving that I have to improve, it’s going to be a fantastic weekend. I can not wait to meet the team again after a two-week stoppage, “said Miguel Oliveira.
The Almada rider leaves for Spain with the aim of “fighting for the points again”, noting that he is among the top 15 finishers that must be “throughout the season”.
The Spanish Grand Prix will be the fourth round of the World Speed. In the main category, MotoGP, Miguel Oliveira has already achieved two top 15 finishes, 11th in Argentina and 14th in the United States.
In Jerez de la Frontera, located 90 kilometers south of Seville, near Cadiz, is the first of 12 consecutive races of the European phase of the competition, the fourth of the 19 events scheduled.
Miguel Oliveira is currently the 16th ranked, with seven points.
